01.07.2024

Luxembourg City – In a significant boost for the future of education and artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe, the European Commission has endorsed a major new project, EUonAIR, co-led by the Luxembourg School of Business (LSB). This initiative, part of the “European Universities 2024 Erasmus+” program, received top marks from the European Commission and is set to commence in January 2025, running for 48 months.

A Transformative Initiative for AI in Education:

The EUonAIR project aims to integrate AI into education and university management, enhancing learning experiences and operational efficiency across Europe. By fostering AI-based education, supporting open research and innovation, and collaborating with cities for smart and green solutions, the project addresses both current and future educational needs.

Benefits for Luxembourg and Europe:

•   For Luxembourg: As the only Luxembourgish institution in the consortium, LSB’s leadership in this project positions Luxembourg at the forefront of AI innovation in education. This initiative will attract international expertise, foster local talent, and enhance the country’s reputation as a hub for technological advancement.

•   For Europe: EUonAIR will create a new standard for universities by implementing inclusive and ethical AI processes. It aims to close the skills gap crucial for Europe’s green and digital transformation, benefiting 85,000 students, 13,400 faculty and staff, and 13.2 million citizens across participating regions.

Consortium Partners:

The project brings together a diverse group of 10 partners and 5 associate members from various countries, including Poland, Germany, Croatia, Spain, Lithuania, France, Greece, Ukraine, Switzerland, Estonia, and Italy. Notable institutions involved are Kozminski University, Zagreb School of Economics and Management (ZSEM), The Polish Japanese Academy of Information Technology, HTW Berlin, ISM Lithuania, CEU Abat Oliba in Barcelona, SUPSI in Lugano, Switzerland, and Hochschule Heilbronn, home to the largest AI center in Europe.

Key Goals and Outcomes:

•   Developing the MyAI Virtual Campus: A revolutionary platform to support AI-driven education and research.

•   Enhancing Mobility and Collaboration: Strengthening international cooperation and mobility, including return migration to Ukraine and post-Brexit migration.

•   Smart and Green Solutions: Collaborating with cities to develop sustainable and intelligent urban solutions.

•   Raising AI Awareness: Promoting knowledge about AI developments and their impact on education.

European Commission’s Recognition:

The European Commission praised EUonAIR for its potential to redefine higher education in Europe by integrating AI in a manner that is inclusive, ethical, and geared towards addressing the continent’s critical skills shortages.
