Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
Program Overview - Financial Industry Management (FICP Designation)

While many business schools typically focus on teaching the academic discipline of finance, the Luxembourg School of Business (LSB) has developed the unique FIM program which supplements its finance offerings and answers a different set of needs. The world-class and career focused FIM curriculum is designed to enable students to understand how financial sector firms work, what makes them successful, and the opportunities and challenges that they face.

FIM is a non-degree granting, executive education program. Graduates earn a certificate of completion and competence and a professional designation. The FIM certificate program consists of a fully online, 12-month comprehensive and rigorous academic curriculum and professional certification. Utilizing a highly accessible online platform that mixes hands-on experiential teaching, relevant course content, and live interaction, FIM is a global platform that delivers practical knowledge and experience related to how financial services function.

FIM is useful for anyone interested in gaining a broad understanding of how the financial sector functions. Whether prospective students want to enter the sector, grow in a current role in financial services, or make a lateral move from one financial sector position to another, FIM will equip them with a strategic and practical understanding of how to reach their goals. In addition to providing a quality curriculum for industry professionals, FIM is also particularly useful for public sector participants looking to develop operational expertise to enhance their ability to refine local regulatory and legal frameworks to encourage growth of the local financial sector in their countries.

What are the tests like?

Luxembourg School of Business uses the learning management software (LMS) Canvas, also used by Cornell, Oxford, The University of Michigan, Columbia, and many other top universities around the world. Program tests, as well as case studies, videos, and assignments are completed through Canvas.

The program also employs various simulation services such as Cesim. These simulations, which take a variety of forms throughout the program, enable candidates to compete and get a chance to implement their strategies in a real-world, fast paced environment, replicating the global financial market. These simulations and most of other assignments are done in teams, and share a similar structure to LSB’s MBA program. Teamwork is a valuable soft skill that the FIM program is built around, and is a core value shared by professionals at the highest levels of the financial world.

How long does the program take to complete?

The program consists of 5 chapters which run over the course of one year.

How does the schedue and the workload work for this program?

Financial Industry Management (FIM) classes take place Online, on Thursdays between 18:00 and 20:00 (sometimes 21:00) CET.

Besides that, candidates can expect 2 to 5 hours of cumulative reading, assignments and teamwork per week. Exceptional candidates or those with significant experience in finance sector can expect to be finished with the workload in less time each week.

Participation in classes is mandatory and contributes towards the ECTS progression. Should the candidate be unable to attend due to work, health or other urgent circumstance, a report has to be made to the program administration. In that case the candidate is required to review the class recording. Class recordings will always be provided on learning management software (LMS) called Canvas.
